    What is Sriracha?

Sriracha is an extremely popular chili sauce that tastes delicious with just about any savory dish. While versions of Sriracha have existed for many years, it recently gained notoriety in the U.S. through its production by Huy Fong Sriracha. Today, Huy Fong is still the most popular Sriracha brand and our favorite. We especially love Sriracha with eggs or as an ingredient in recipes like this aioli or our Spicy Kewpie Mayo.

    Ingredients

Ingredients to make spicy sriracha aioli, including mayo, sriracha, grated garlic, salt, and pepper.
    • Mayonnaise - Mayo is the base for the Sriracha aioli. We prefer kewpie mayo for this recipe because it has a rich umami flavor and creamy consistency.
    • Sriracha - Sriracha sauce adds a hint of heat without overpowering the aioli.
    • Garlic - Fresh garlic adds the quintessential aroma to the mayo.
    • Kosher salt or sea salt - Salt accentuates the other sauce ingredients.
    • Freshly ground black pepper - Black pepper gives the aioli a light spicy kick.

    See recipe card for quantities.

    Instructions

Two simple steps to make spicy sriracha aioli in a small bowl and spoon.
    • Whisk Ingredients - Add mayonnaise, Sriracha, and garlic to a medium or small bowl and whisk until combined.
    • Season - Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
    • Chill then serve - Chill for at least 30 minutes before serving.

Hint: If you are making this with a dish like our Cajun Fries or Roasted Asparagus with Parmesan you can mix the ingredients for the aioli while the other dish cooks to save time.

What to Serve with Sriracha Aioli

This easy Sriracha Aioli can be used as a burger spread, fish tacos topping, or as a spicy dipping sauce for french fries and veggies. Check out these dishes that pair deliciously with Aioli Sriracha:

    • Parmesan Truffle Fries
    • Spicy Cajun Fries
    • Wagyu Burger
    • Animal Style Fries (replace the In-N-Out sauce with Sriracha Aioli)
    • Pesto Swiss And Turkey Skillet Sliders (replace the Pesto with Sriracha aioli)

    FAQ

    Is aioli just fancy mayo?

While aioli and mayo have a similar consistency, mayo is made from just egg yolks and oil while aioli is often made from mayo, garlic, and other ingredients for flavor. As a result, mayo typically has a light flavor while aioli has a more robust garlic flavor.

    Does Sriracha Aioli have gluten?

No, all of the ingredients in this recipe are gluten-free.

What's the difference between aioli and remoulade?

They are similar. Both aioli and remoulade have mayonnaise, but aioli typically only includes oil and garlic while remoulade usually adds other seasoning and sauces.

    How spicy is Sriracha?

Sriracha is moderately spicy and less spicy than Tobasco sauce. On the scoville spice scale, Sriracha ranges from 1,000 to 2,500 scoville units. Sriracha's spiciness comes from a jalapeño-hybrid chile pepper.

Why is there a rooster on the Sriracha bottle?

The rooster is a symbol of strength in Chinese culture. It is also the zodiac sign of Huy Fong's founder, David Tran.

    Substitutions

    • Regular mayo - Instead of Kewpie mayo, you can use regular mayo. It will have less umami flavor but will still be delicious.
    • Vegan - Use vegan Kewpie mayo instead of Kewpie mayo to make this recipe vegan.
    • Garlic powder - If you don't have garlic cloves or just want a lighter garlic flavor, use garlic powder.

    Variations

    • Extra Spicy - Add chili powder, cayenne pepper, or togarashi to make the aioli extra spicy.
    • Lemon or Lime - Add a dash of lemon juice or lime juice to add a bright flavor to the sauce.
    • Mild - Make a milder version of the sauce by using less Sriracha.

    Equipment

This spicy aioli recipe calls for just a few common kitchen essentials, including measuring spoons, a mixing bowl, and a spoon or chopsticks to mix.

    Storage

Store aioli Sriracha in the refrigerator in an air-tight container up to 5 days. Before using it again, stir it softly until it reaches its original consistency. These ingredients don't stand up well to freezing.

    Top tips

    • Use a baking spatula to scrape all of the sauce from the mixing bowl and eliminate food waste.
    • For fresh aioli, do not leave it out at room temperature for an extended period of time. This aioli contains mayo, which can spoil if not refrigerated.
