Superfood Peanut Butter and Berry Smoothie is a creamy flavor packed smoothie bowl packed with probiotics and vitamins. This bowl tastes like a decadent peanut butter and jelly sandwich and makes for a revitalizing brunch or post workout snack.

We used to spend our summers interning or attending summer school at the University of Hawaii. In our free time, we'd go to the beach, hike, and eat all the delicious food Honolulu has to offer. Whenever we go back to Oahu, we visit our favorite smoothie shop in Kaimuki.

This shop has dozens of tropical juices and smoothie bowls made from organic fruit. One of our favorite smoothie bowls to get after a hot beach day tastes exactly like a pb & j! Since most of the smoothie shops in SF only offer açai bowls, we recreated our favorite peanut butter and berry bowl at home. We add Navitas Organics Superfood Blend to take our smoothie bowl to the next level with added protein, superfoods, and probiotics.

    • Superfood Peanut Butter and Berry Smoothie Bowl

    Ingredients

    • Banana - Bananas add a creamy consistency and are a great source of nutrients like potassium. They can also aid digestion, heart health, and weight loss.
    • Frozen berries - Frozen mixed berries, including strawberries and blueberries, are an excellent source of antioxidants. These antioxidants protect your cells and may reduce disease risk.
    • Greek Yogurt - Plain Greek yogurt is the creamy base for the bowl.
    • Natural peanut butter - Natural peanut butter is high in protein and contains only peanuts and salt. It contains no fillers or unnecessary ingredients.
    • Navitas Organics Essential Superfood Blend - Contains wheatgrass juice powder, kale powder and moringa powder to bolster your detoxification system.
    • Granola - Granola adds the signature crunch to balance the soft texture of the other ingredients.
    • Shredded Coconut flakes - Shredded coconut flakes provide a nice crunch and extra sweetness.
    • Honey - Honey adds floral sweetness and is packed with nutrients and antioxidants.

    Instructions

    • Freeze bowl - Put bowl inside freezer.
    • Blend fruit - Blend the berries & banana in the blender until blended into small pieces.
    • Blend remaining ingredients - Add yogurt, peanut butter, and Navitas Organics Essential Superfood Blend and blend just until smooth.
    • Garnish and serve - Remove bowl from the freezer and spoon and smooth the berry smoothie into the bowl. Then garnish the smoothie bowl with your favorite toppings and enjoy immediately.

    Substitutions

    • Kefir - Replace plain Greek yogurt with kefir for a similar tart base, but with added probiotics and protein.
    • Apple juice - Use apple juice instead of kefir to add an apple flavor to the smoothie.
    • Coconut Milk or Water - Replace kefir with coconut milk or water if you want to add coconut flavor to the smoothie. Just be aware that coconut milk will help thicken the smoothie while coconut water will make it thinner.
    • Agave - Replace honey with agave sweetener if you prefer a more neutral tasting sweetener.

    Variations

    • Chia seeds - Chia seeds are loaded with antioxidants, fiber, and omega-3 fatty acids. Find them at your local grocery store, including Trader Joe's and Sprouts.
    • Clean protein powder - Add a scoop of your favorite clean protein powder to your smoothie. Make sure it's free of artificial additives. It's a great way to make your smoothie more filling for breakfast or after a workout.
    • Collagen powder - Collagen powder dissolves in the smoothie mixture and is virtually tasteless. It supports youthful skin and bone strength.
    • Goji berries - Goji berries are sweet and sour. Goji berries are high in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. They are available in dried berry or powder form.

    Equipment

To make this healthy smoothie bowl recipe you will need a blender, measuring cup and spoon, knife, and cutting board.

Top Tips to Make a Perfect Smoothie

    1. Add liquid - Liquid helps the frozen smoothie ingredients blend more smoothly. If your smoothie isn't blending fully or is too thick, add more plant-based milk starting with a quarter cup at a time.
    2. Frozen fruit - Using frozen fruit keeps the smoothie cold and frozen without diluting the flavor.
    3. Blend long enough - Blend your smoothie until the ingredients are incorporated and smooth, which may take around 2 minutes. To make a perfectly blended smoothie, blend ingredients on a low speed then increase the speed until the ingredients are smooth.
