About Honey Soy Garlic Sauce
- Taste - The combination of ingredients create a uniquely flavored umami sauce. Add togarashi or crushed red pepper for a little kick!
- Texture - The sauce is light and a little syrupy.
- Effort - All you need to do is whisk and simmer the ingredients.
- Time - This simple sauce takes less than 10 minutes.
Ingredients
- Mirin - Mirin is a Japanese sweet rice wine that is the base of many sauces.
- Soy Sauce - Soy sauce, or shoyu in Japanese, adds a rich umami flavor. We prefer low sodium shoyu because it is healthier without sacrificing the rich flavor. You can also use tamari or gluten-free soy sauce.
- Garlic - Minced garlic adds the quintessential herby aroma.
- Honey - Honey adds sweetness to balance the rich savory flavors.
- Crushed red pepper flakes or togarashi - Add crushed red pepper flakes or togarashi to make the sauce spicy.

- Mayo - Add a couple of teaspoons of this sauce to a quarter cup of mayo to make a delicious creamy dip for vegetables, like artichokes and asparagus.

Simmer for 10 minutes and occasionally stir. Remove from heat. If you want to make the sauce spicy, add crushed red pepper flakes with 5 minutes of cook time left.
