    About Ranch Dressing without Buttermilk

Ranch dressing is typically made with buttermilk and sour cream, making the dressing tangy and creamy. While buttermilk and sour cream are delicious in ranch, Greek yogurt is a healthier alternative that yields the same delicious results.

BBQ Chicken with Greek Yogurt Granch Dressing

    Ingredients

    • Greek yogurt - Plain Greek yogurt is a healthy base alternative to traditional buttermilk.
    • Onion powder - Onion powder adds a sharp aroma and hint of sweetness.
    • Garlic powder - Garlic powder adds a hint of spice and the classic aroma
    • Kosher salt - Kosher salt is a coarse edible salt that enhances all the flavors of the dish.
    • Lemon juice - Lemon adds citrus flavor that brightens the dish.
    • Fresh green onions - Green onions add a mild finishing touch.
    • Water - Water keeps the dressing from getting too thick.

    Substitutions

    • Chives - Replace onion powder with chives for a more mild onion flavor
    • Buttermilk - Replace â…“ cup yogurt with â…“ cup buttermilk for a thicker and slightly richer greek yogurt buttermilk dressing.

    Variations

    • Black pepper - Add fresh ground black pepper for a hint of spice.
    • Honey - A little bit of honey will provide sweetness to balance the savoriness of the dressing.
    • Parsley - Add a little dried parsley for an earthy and peppery aroma.
    • Dill - Add a teaspoon dried dill to add brightness and sweetness.
    • Dijon mustard - Dijon mustard will add tanginess.

    Instructions

    • Add ingredients to food processor or blender - First, add Greek yogurt, onion powder, garlic powder, kosher salt, lemon juice, green onions, and water to the blender bowl of a food processor.
    • Pulse food processor or blender - Then, pulse and blend Greek yogurt mixture until it reaches a well-blended, creamy consistency. This will take about 30 seconds. If you do not have a food processor, use a blender instead and blend for about one minute.
    • Serve and enjoy - Once the ingredients are blended, scoop the ranch dressing into serving bowl and garnish with chopped chives to be used immediately.

    Recipe FAQs

    Why is ranch dressing unhealthy?

Typical ranch dressing is high in sodium and saturated fat. Our Greek yogurt ranch dressing is lower in both sodium and saturated fat than typical ranch dressing.

What does Greek yogurt ranch dressing taste like?

Greek yogurt ranch dressing tastes almost identical to normal ranch. If you want to spice it up, you can add more seasoning.

Which Greek yogurt is best for ranch dressing?

We recommend using a thick and creamy Greek yogurt such as Trader Joe's Greek yogurt or Fage. Don't use a low-fat or thin Greek yogurt or the dressing will be too thin.

What to Serve with Healthy Ranch Dressing

Greek yogurt ranch dressing is a versatile sauce that goes well with so many dishes. Enjoy it with our BBQ chicken salad, as a sauce for our Cast Iron Skillet Burger or Wagyu Burger, or as a dipping sauce for veggies and homemade fries. Check out our sides for more options!

    Storage

Refrigerate Greek Yogurt Ranch Dressing in an air-tight container, such as a mason jar, for up to 4 days. Before using Greek yogurt dressing, stir it softly until it reaches its original consistency.

    Top Tips

    • If you are using this ranch as salad dressing, all you need to do is add the salad ingredients and ranch to a large mason jar, then shake to mix everything up!
    • If you don't love vegetables, use this ranch dressing as a dipping sauce to make veggies delicious.
