Why You'll Love This Tuna Lettuce Wrap Recipe

    • Taste - The combination of chilled tuna salad on butter lettuce is invigorating.
    • Texture - The salad is creamy and the lettuce is crunchy.
    • Effort - All you need to do is make the tuna salad then add it to the lettuce.

    Key Ingredients

Ingredients for tuna lettuce wraps, canned tuna, shallot, dill, kewpie mayo, lemon zest and juice, dijon mustard, celery, capers, pepper, butter lettuce.
    • Tuna packed in olive oil - Tuna packed in olive oil is richer. Just remember to drain well before using.
    • Celery - Celery adds a light crunch.
    • Shallot - Shallot adds sharpness.
    • Fresh dill - Fresh dill is bright and herby.
    • Capers - Capers supply a briny accent.
    • Lemon juice and zest - Lemon juice and zest brighten up the lettuce cups.
    • Dijon mustard - Dijon mustard is tangy.
    • Kewpie or regular mayonnaise - We prefer kewpie mayo for its richer flavor.
    • Lettuce - Lettuce is a crunchy and healthy alternative to bread and tortillas. We prefer butter lettuce because it is tasty and sturdy.

    See recipe card for quantities.

    Substitutions/Variations

    • Romaine - This wrap will also be tasty with romaine lettuce.
    • Tortilla wrap - For a more filling alternative, enjoy the tuna salad with a tortilla wrap instead of lettuce.
    • Spicy - Add some Sriracha for a little spice.
    • Avocado - Incorporate avocado for a creamy and healthy addition.

    How to Make Lettuce Wrap

Steps to make tuna salad lettuce cups, break up tuna and mix flaky tuna, kewpie mayo, celery, shallot, dill, capers, lemon zest and juice.
    • Make tuna salad - Add the tuna to a large mixing bowl and use a fork to break up the fish into small flaky pieces. Add the diced celery, minced shallot, chopped dill, capers, lemon zest and juice, dijon mustard, and mayonnaise to the tuna. Then fold the ingredients together until combined. Season with salt and pepper to taste. (Photo 1, 2, 3, and 4)
Steps to make tuna salad lettuce wraps, arrange lettuce cups on a plate, fill with a scoop of tuna salad, and serve.
    • Assemble lettuce cups - Nestle the lettuce leaves on a serving platter, creating little cups. Top each lettuce cup with a scoop of tuna salad and spread it out slightly. (Photo 5 and 6)
    • Serve - Then sprinkle the tuna wraps with lettuce with fresh cracked black pepper. Serve and enjoy! (Photo 7)

Pro tip - Use fresh lettuce! Wilted lettuce will not taste good and will lose its shape.

    Lettuce Wrap Tips

    • Use hearty leaves. The lettuce needs to be hearty enough to withstand the weight of the tuna salad.
    • Serve immediately or chill. Tuna salad often contains mayo, which can spoil quickly. Chill the lettuce cups until ready to serve.
    • Make the chicken salad ahead of time for easy prep. Scoop the tuna salad on top and serve when ready to enjoy.
