Fall Sangria with Apple and Pumpkin Spice - The Heirloom Pantry Pin

Fall Sangria is a delightful fall drink made with your favorite white wine, bubbly prosecco, pumpkin spice, crisp apples, and pomegranate seeds. Make a batch ahead of serving for maximum flavor and serve at your next fall gathering with cinnamon sugar-rimmed glasses.

Fall sangria with pumpkin spice, apple, cinnamon sticks, and pomegranate seeds in a glass and a large glass pitcher.

Fall sangria is a delicious festive drink for Thanksgiving or any autumn gathering. It's bubbly and chilled, yet cozy with warm flavors. This white sangria can be made ahead for gatherings and looks beautiful in a large pitcher! Prep time is only 10 minutes and the recipe is easily scalable for large groups.

This sangria recipe is different than a common apple cider sangria or red wine sangria in that it uses a dry white white, pumpkin syrup, and is served in cinnamon sugar-rimmed glasses. This was inspired by the fresh fall flavors found in the California Thanksgiving Menu and the subtle pumpkin flavor in Iced Pumpkin Spice Latte.

    About this Fall Sangria

    • Taste and Texture - Bright, bubbly, and sweetened with real fruit and pumpkin spice.
    • Difficulty - This recipe is incredibly easy to make! It only requires slicing and pouring.
    • Time - The fruit takes a few minutes to prepare. Overall, this quick recipe is the easiest and most impressive cocktail to make around the holidays, or any time around September, October, and November. It's the perfect cocktail recipe for entertaining large groups.

    Ingredients

    • White wine - white wine offers a crisp, dry flavor that balances the sweetness. Red wine is too overpowering for the pumpkin spice syrup.
    • Torani pumpkin spice syrup - this pumpkin spice syrup adds a hint of pumpkin pie spice flavor without being too overly sweet. It adds cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and clove flavors to the sangria mixture.
    • Prosecco - a light-bodied and aromatic wine with frothy bubbles.
    • Apples - thinly sliced crisp apples, like honey crisps, smittens, and granny smith apples.
    • Pomegranate seeds - Add a tart and sweet flavor to the wine.
    • Cinnamon sticks - provide a spicy aroma.
    • Club soda - provides the refreshing carbonation to the sangria.

    See recipe card for quantities.

    Substitutions

    • Red wine - Use Garnacha or Pinot Noir instead of white wine if you prefer red wine and want to make this a red sangria, just don't use the torani syrup of the taste will be overpowering.
    • Orange - Replace sliced apples with sliced orange if you prefer the sweeter and more vibrant, citrusy taste of orange.
    • Brandy - Add a splash of brandy for sweet, warm flavor.
    • Homemade pumpkin syrup - Mix a quarter cup of pumpkin puree, 1 tablespoon maple syrup, 2 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, ½ teaspoon flaky sea salt instead of using store bought pumpkin spice syrup.
    • Non-alcoholic - Use sparkling apple cider and flavored club soda instead of white wine and prosecco to make the sangria alcohol-free.

    Variations

    • Orange - Add sliced oranges to the Sangria for citrus. Oranges go particularly well if you replace the white wine with red wine.
    • Pear - Pears are sweet and juicy and taste delicious when paired with a white wine Sangria. Add them closer to serving so they do not become mealy and disintegrate.
    • Appies - Add a variety of apples, like Smitten and Lucy Glo, that can add a fresh dimension to the Sangria.
    • Simple syrup - use simple syrup instead of pumpkin pie syrup if you prefer an option with less sugar. Add a splash of orange juice or apple cider for a brighter flavor.

Try this tropical version in the summertime: Pineapple Watermelon Summer Sangria.

    Instructions

    • Add liquids to pitcher - Stir the wine, Torani pumpkin syrup, and prosecco in a large pitcher.
    • Add fruit and cinnamon sticks - Add apple slices, pomegranate seeds, and cinnamon sticks to the pitcher. Refrigerate for 1-2 hours.
    • Garnish glasses - To garnish the glasses, mix sugar and cinnamon in a bowl or plate. Then, fill a second small bowl with an inch of water. Turn the glass upside down and dip it into the bowl of water just to wet the rim, then dip and twist into the cinnamon sugar mixture.
    • Serve sangria - Pour the apple sangria into glasses with fruit and garnish with a cinnamon stick.

Pro tip - Use fresh, crisp apples and pomegranate perils

    Equipment

This pumpkin spice and apple fall sangria requires common kitchen essentials. You will need a knife, cutting board, pitcher, glasses, ladle, and shallow bowl or plate.

    Storage

Store Fall Sangria in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. When you are ready to drink it again, garnish the glasses as mentioned above and enjoy.

These ingredients don't stand up well to freezing.

    Top tip

For a fully developed flavor, let the Sangria sit in the fridge for at least 1 hour before serving it. This allows all of the ingredients to blend and the fruit to soak up some of the wine.
