    Why You'll Love Roasted Pistachios

    • Taste - Roasting the pistachios amplifies their rich flavor.
    • Texture - They are perfectly light and crunchy.
    • Effort - Toasting pistachios is simple. Just throw the nuts in a pan or in the oven.
    • Time - It takes just a few minutes to roast them.

    Ingredients

Ingredients to make roasted pistachios, raw shelled pistachios and sea salt or kosher salt.
    • Raw pistachios - Raw unsalted pistachios have a uniquely nutty, earthy, and sweet flavor.
    • Kosher or sea salt - Sprinkle the pistachios with a pinch of kosher salt to accentuate their rich flavor.

    See recipe card for quantities.

    Substitutions and Variations

    • Herbs and seasoning - Add pepper or some of our favorite blends (use code PANTRY for discount).
    • Sweet - Drizzle the pecans with maple syrup, brown sugar, honey or cinnamon to make these pistachios extra sweet.
    • Spicy - Enjoy the pistachios with some cayenne pepper or chili powder for a spicy snack.

    How to Roast Pistachios

Steps to make roasted pistachios, add pistachios to a pan, cook until toasted, and season with salt.

    Stovetop

    • Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Then add the pistachios to the hot skillet and toast in a single layer. Do not overcrowd the pan. Cook the pistachios and stir frequently. Keep a close eye to ensure the pistachios do not burn. Cook until lightly browned and toasted, about 5-7 minutes. Then transfer to a plate in a single layer to cool and become crunchy. Season the pistachios with sea salt if desired and enjoy or store for future use.

    Oven

    • Heat oven to 375°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Place the pistachios in a single layer on the baking sheet with space between them. Then place in the preheated oven and bake for 5-7 minutes. Remove from the oven and check on the nuts to ensure they don’t burn. If they need additional toasting, add the baking sheet back to the oven and continue to toast, checking every minute to ensure the nuts do not burn. Once the pistachios are lightly toasted, remove from the oven and allow to cool. Season the nuts with sea salt if desired and enjoy or store for future use.

Pro tip - If baking, be sure to spread your pistachios into a single layer so they cook evenly.

    Storage

Store leftover toasted pistachios in an air-tight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 month for best results. You can also freeze them in a freezer bag for up to 3 months.

    Roasting Tips

    • Use fresh pistachios - Fresh pistachios have a brighter green color and more intense flavor than pistachios that are not fresh.
    • Occasionally stir the pistachios if you are cooking them on the stovetop. This will ensure they don't burn.
    • Let the pistachios cool completely before storing them. This prevents them from becoming soggy.
    • Don't overcook the pistachios or they will be bitter and dry.
